Remembrance day was very quiet on Sunday, people were asked to stand outside their front doors as a mark of respect but I don't think that many people did in Salisbury; dad went to have a look but he said he was the only one out there. i didn't notice anyone in Ivy Street paying their respects.
I passed the poultry cross in Salisbury the other day, this is an old structure in Salisbury which has seen so much history, it was there long before I was born and it'll be there long after I die. Apparently my great grandmother was hit by a horse pulling a stage coach from London to Salisbury past the cross, causing my gran to have fits for the rest of her life. I need to find out more to this story.
Sometimes homeless people gather under here on a Thursday evening to get food from an organisation (Can't remember the name) but because of the pandemic this has been stopped.
Meat used to be sold here centuries ago, there used to be a cheese cross in front of the library, but that's long gone. The poultry cross dates from 1450 and must have seen a lot of history. The image below is from 1928 when my gran would have been in her late twenties. The other one is from 1894.
Apparently it's on the news that they may have found a vaccine for the Corona virus which they say is 90 percent successful, I'm still a bit dubious so I'm not getting my hopes up. Oldham in Manchester is the worst affected area in the UK now. The frightening thing is is the test, which is brutal. A rod is shoved down your throat and up your nose making you physically sick, sometimes it's been known for the results to get lost so people have to go through it all again.
Has a camera club meeting about piers and beaches last night, it was very interesting, I think I should use my tripod more. I also heard the rain belting down, so bad i heard it against the roof.
