Went to Warminster today, it was only a 2-carriage train going to Cardiff, was drizzling when  arrived as my weather thing said I wouldn't need an umbrella.  Roadworks in town so there was a huge line of cars, Zoe rang me to see if I was coming. I told them about the autism show in London and Zoe said they could have a word with the boss to see if they could go in June, I'll be surprised if they say yes.  they'll probably say no and go themselves! Finished at 12.30 so i went off to my usual café, it's half term so it was heaving, had spinich and leek pie, the cost of living is going up so I hope they don't increase this prices.  I found some more balls of wool in the blue cross shop, just as well. When I was across the road, the whole of the street apart from the side I was on had a power cut.  Boots, Weatherspoon's and possibly my café I went too where all in the dark; me thinks someone on the roadworks cut though the cable.  Went to Lidle a...

Friday 18th February 2022 - storm Eunice

What fun and games I had today, awoke this morning with sun coming through the curtains. My laptop is doing updates, taking forever. Leaves were blowing round the garden, even the goldfinches were blown off the feeding post. Someone's left the widescreen TV by our gate, it'll get blown over.  The UK has been given a red weather warning. I dropped of my prescription and went to Tesco via Blue Boar Row, or should I say blown along. Scaffolding along Queen Street was shaking in the wind. Went to wait for the bus by the Odeon, looked at the tracker and saw it was on its way. Then it came round corner with a not in service sign on it. A bloke in a fluorescent jacket came up and told us but all buses have been suspended because of the weather for the next 3 hours! I crossed the road and asked if I could share a taxi with two elderly people, who were getting off at fountain way. When we passed the bus stop at fisherton street where two more people awaiting, they also shared the taxi ...

Storm Eunice is whistling in tomorrow, supposed to be 90mph winds! The storm yesterday gave people living up North, power cuts and flooding. I've taken my windmills in this evening, lots of schools are closed tomorrow. I hope it's not as bad as the MET office are saying. A powerline pulled down by a tree, fell onto a kennels and 13 poor dogs were electrocuted. The owners must be devastated, many rooves could be blown off. Some people have been replacing the garage rooves out back, in the nick of time I'd say. It's already raining hard in Newquay of what I've seen on the webcam, god help us all.

Sunday 13th February 2022

Went to a cafe called the Raj yesterday, as the Turbine was fully booked. I thought it was Indian, but it's Mexican. Food was lovely, had spaghettis carbonara, quite busy. Lots of empty shops in Rugby, but it's like that everywhere. I see the British consults have evacuated Russia, things must be getting bad. Putin said he's not going to invade Ukraine, Hitler said he wasn't going to invade Poland but he did.  One MP says it smells of the Munich agreement in 1939, I already knew this; Boris is no Neville Chamberlain! Looked at old photos yesterday, my dad was 27 when he got married, uncle Mike was 30 I think at the time. My dad looks like Hank Marvin from the Shadows, mum looked like Shirley Temple as a kid  Most of the people who attended my parents wedding are dead or very old. My parents went to Teignmouth for their honeymoon, aunt Joan said said after the reception at the Stratford club they saw them off at the railway station. Teignmouth was very different than, I...

Thursday 10th February 2022

I got up early for Lize's funeral, I heard aunt Joan moving about. I didn't sleep very well last night, we all dreaded today  Put on navy blue trousers & wore a dark jacket, told to leave my hat behind. Drove about 30 mins to the cremetorium, the wind farms remind me of Cornwall. Lots of Eddie Stobart lorries based in Rugby, the crem overlooks countryside. Lots of people arrived I didn't know, Karl & David were already there. It was freezing, knew I should have bought gloves. I saw Wendy who is Lizzie's best friend, I feel sorry for her as it's her father's funeral next week; must be awful for her poor thing  We waited in the lounge while the staff got ready, then the Hearst arrived. They played Planet Earth by Duran Duran, & Clocks by ColdPlay plus Ray of light by Maddona. Karl had produced a video showing her life, I'm so proud of him. I gave him a journal so he can write his thoughts in, I had mine when I was 14. What I'm writing here is a...

Sunday 6th February 2022

Today is the anniversary of the Munich air disaster which almost the entire Manchester United football team known as the Busby babes, were almost whipped out. They shouldn't have taken off in such terrible weather, it was snowing and it was on their 3rd attempt at taking off the crash happened. I thought I would never come to Rugby again, but here I am. I was in the market Square when Alan phoned, I was a bit subdued in the car. Went past the army air of flying, the sat nav sent us that way. Dunchurch outside of Rugby is a quaint village full of thatched cottages, supposed to be older then Rugby. I didn't sleep well that night, kept damned jerking and snorting. Went to the Harvester & met Carol, her partner & Christopher. Me and aunt Joan had a chat while Alan was out swimming. She said that Dave said my dad should be in a care home, I don't bloody think so! Some of these damned care homes are no better then prisons. I've never warmed to Dave, & now Liz is g...

Wednesday 2nd February 2021

Apparently 2 planes from Russia were seen in British airspace this morning, so the RAF scrambled a jet. As if we got nothing else to worry about, Russia is threatening to invade the Ukraine. Boris Johnson went to speak to the Ukraniun president yesterday, and Putin this morning. People are worried there may be another war, mum says it'll come to nothing; that's what they said about Hitler! I hope Boris Johnson isn't another Chamberlain. Met steam punks in the Pheasant this evening, not many of us turned up. Had cheesy chips, I must go in a diet. I'm French knitting a hat, I get sore hands and thets a sore on my thumb. I'm dreading going up aunt Joan's, may be freezing.
