Friday 18th February 2022 - storm Eunice
Leaves were blowing round the garden, even the goldfinches were blown off the feeding post. Someone's left the widescreen TV by our gate, it'll get blown over. The UK has been given a red weather warning.
I dropped of my prescription and went to Tesco via Blue Boar Row, or should I say blown along. Scaffolding along Queen Street was shaking in the wind.
Went to wait for the bus by the Odeon, looked at the tracker and saw it was on its way. Then it came round corner with a not in service sign on it. A bloke in a fluorescent jacket came up and told us but all buses have been suspended because of the weather for the next 3 hours!
I crossed the road and asked if I could share a taxi with two elderly people, who were getting off at fountain way. When we passed the bus stop at fisherton street where two more people awaiting, they also shared the taxi with us!
The guy was finding it hard to hold the steering wheel, i have a lot of respect for all the sevens taxies.
I got dropped off at the top of Festival Avenue, door almost came off when I got out; I expect taxes will be very busy now.
Apparently the 02 stadium in London had its roof ripped off, and the wind was about 102mph on the Isle of Wight.
A plane coming into Heathrow tried to land but had to go round for another try. Must have been terribly bumpy for the passengers on board, they apparently applauded when they landed. That takes skillful flying.
Apparently strangers on board were holding hands, passengers were being sick in the aisles or duty free bags and there was a dead silence until someone's kid asked their parents if they were going to die. The plane (a Flybe) took off from Morocco, why try and land in these awful conditions?
I managed to get a bus this evening, been told the tree by the maisonetts has come down; find out tomorrow.
The storm is now in Holland and the Dutch government has warned people not to go outside unless absolutely necessary, looks like it's their turn now.
Well this is certainly a day we won't forget. Many trees came down in Salisbury Including this one I used to try and climb as a kid. I still got photo's of it still standing, lucky it went the other way or someone's wall and house would have copped it.
